Social Justice Movements

Recently, various social justice movements have emerged, or gained increased momentum, that expose the unjust treatment of people of different races and religions, as well as genders and sexualities. With the proliferation of social media, many of these movements have gone online (and generated trending hashtags) to open the conversation of the injustices suffered by many of the people living in today's society. People throughout the country – and around the globe – have posted videos, images, and stories, which have helped people connect with others who have had similar experiences, reminding them that they're not alone. These campaigns have also helped raise awareness to bring about a compassionate understanding of the ills still present in society and the need for action.

Although fundamentally, these social justice movements are similar – seeking equality for all – we must also recognize their focus on each group. To lump all campaigns together would be a disservice, as it would ignore the unique plights of diverse groups of people.
