The Rising Stars Selection Process
Super Lawyers, an independent rating service, conducts the selections for Rising Stars. The company uses its patented multi-phase process to identify candidates and name them to the final list.
The rigorous selection process includes:
- Nominations: The first step involves peer reviews, surveys, and research to identify outstanding attorneys and create a candidate pool. A lawyer cannot nominate themselves, nor can they campaign others to do so for them.
- Candidate evaluations: The nominees are then evaluated on 12 indicators of recognition and achievement. Evaluation factors include, but are not limited to, verdicts and settlements, honors and awards, and professional associations and activities. Each indicator is given a point value, with some being worth more than others.
- Peer evaluations: The top-scoring attorneys from the first two steps are then invited to serve on a Blue Ribbon review panel. They score their peers within the same practice area.
- Final selection: The highest-ranking lawyers from the previous steps are then selected to the final list. For Rising Stars, only 2.5% of attorneys in the state are chosen, and they must either be 40 years of age or younger or have been practicing law for no more than 10 years.
