The federal Fair Housing Act (also known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968), as well as the New York State Human Rights Law, protects your legal right to rent or purchase a home or apartment, get a fair mortgage, and receive homeowners insurance, regardless of your race, religion, sexual orientation, and so on.
